This test is not designed to be taken for the purpose of licensing.

We have designed this test as a quick and cost effective method of assessing the level of language proficiency. The results of this test can be used by the candidate or relevant organisations to help determine the length of training and the likely cost that may be required to reach the desired level. The results of this test will also reveal if there are any tailor-made training recommendations that may be of benefit to the candidate.

Use:

This test is used to assess the proficiency level of the candidate for the purpose of determining suitable training level, individual training requirements and cost of training.  This test may be taken by any person who is interested in determining their proficiency level and is mandatory for all students who are taking part in our Aviation English Courses (the price of the test is included in the course fee).

Duration: 

The test takes about 10 minutes

Form: 

The test is in the form of an interview either in person (face-to-face), over the phone or through video conferencing.

Structure:

Part 1 (2-3 minutes)

The candidate will be asked to answer several general questions about their background and work. Answers must not be pre-prepared, learned by heart and recited during the test.
Part 2 (2-3 minutes)

After listening to each one of 8 short recorded statements, the candidate will be required to describe what they have heard. The statements will be in the context of aviation and R/T communications and will represent a range of different international accents.
Part 3 (3-4 minutes)

After listening to a long informal report about an aviation incident, the candidate will be required to give a detailed summary of the incident. This will be followed by a general discussion regarding the issues raised in the report.

 

Results:

During the test the examiner will be taking notes which he/she will consider after the test has ended. The results of the test and our recommendation for suitable study level and any special needs will be sent via email to the candidate within 3 working days.

Shortly after payment you will be contacted in order to book a test at a time which is convenient to you. Please note that if you, for whatever reason, fail to take the test at the agreed time you will not be refunded the test fee. However, you may reschedule the test to a different time (without any additional payment), as long as you do it at least one calendar week before your original test date.
