Can I change my starting date and should I pay for it?
If you notify us two weeks in advance you can change your starting date free of charge. If you were given a visa already then you are no longer able to change your starting date.
Are the books included in the price? If not, how much do they cost?
Books are not included in the course fees. You can purchase them from book stores or at the school. They cost on average £14.00. From time to time we have second hand books available at lower prices.
How do you run the classes?
Each lesson is 3 hours with a 15 minute break in the middle unless otherwise specified in the course description.
What is the number of students per class?
The average class size is 15 students (maximum size is 20).
Do you do summer courses? What is the price for such a course?
Our courses run all year round so you can come summer, spring, winter or autumn. From time to time we may have special offers for certain courses, so keep an eye on our website for regular updates.
Do you offer degree courses?
LMC does not offer degree courses. If you are planning on doing a degree course we can prepare you for your IELTS exam.
When does the IELTS preparation course start?
You can join the IELTS course on any Monday.
How long does the IELTS preparation course take?
This depends on your starting level. To calculate the time you may need to study, visit our website and go to the IELTS Checker
How do I find out what is the most suitable level for me?
Upon arrival at the school you will be given an entry-level test. Based on this and a short interview you will be placed in a level suitable for you.
How many books do I need to buy during the whole course?
This depends on the duration of your course but you should count on spending 12 weeks at one level.
How many weeks of holiday am I entitled to have?
8 months to one year: 12 weeks holiday, including school holidays. 6 to 8 months: 8 weeks holiday, including school holidays. 3 to 6 months: 4 weeks holiday, including school holidays. Less than 3 months: no holiday entitlement. This holiday entitlement is not mandatory. Students may use it as a whole or in part. The holiday period is part of the study period and is not at the end of it. In other words, a 52-week course is a total of 52 weeks and not 52 weeks + 12 weeks holiday. Please note that the dates indicated is the LMC holidays schedule only apply to class based courses at LMC.
Do I start from the same lesson as when I left for holiday?
No, if you go on holiday for a short period you will join the same class when you come back. However, if you go away for a longer period you may be assigned to a different class when you return from your holiday.
Do you have evening classes?
Yes, we have evening classes in Finsbury Park on Tuesday and Thursday from 18:15-20:15. These are classes focussing mainly on communication.
When can we start the evening classes?
You can start them any Tuesday you like.
When can we start the General English classes?
You can start your classes any Monday. Courses that have a fixed starting date are updated on the website.
Do you always have free spaces to join the classes?
We can’t always guarantee a space at your chosen, but we will always try to accommodate your needs and allocate you to a class suitable for you.
How long does it take for you to send the Certificate of Enrolment?
We try to deal with your request within 48 hours. If you come to the Registry you may collect your documents on the spot.> Can I study more than 15 hrs/wk?
Yes, we have different programmes available. Our website has details on our semi-intensive and intensive courses.
Can I study less than 15 hrs/wk?
If you need a student visa then 15hrs/wk is the required minimum. However, if you are an au-pair or do not need a visa then we can organise a part time course for you.
How many levels do you offer?
We have seven levels available starting from Beginners up to Advanced.
I want to apply to get my visa, but I don’t want to attend the classes. Can you help me?
It is a Home Office requirement that you attend you classes for a minimum of 85% of the course. However, if you have legitimate reasons for your absence such as illness or personal problems, it is important to keep the school informed so we can keep your file up to date.
Do you offer any preparation courses for Cambridge, IELTS or Trinity?
We offer all of the above. The IELTS and Cambridge Exam preparation courses can be joined any Monday. IELTS exams are held every month, the Cambridge exams on three occasions throughout the year. Trinity exams can be taken every month at our Finsbury Park branch and are open to all levels (even beginners). Please note that the average price for external exams is £90.00 (IELTS / Cambridge) the Trinity exam average price is £50.00.
What is the Cambridge exam and why should I take it?
Cambridge offer a range of exams which provide proof of a student’s English language ability at different levels. These qualifications are prestigious and widely-recognised, enhancing student employment opportunities and confidence with the English language. The most popular exams are the First Certificate in English (FCE), which is for Upper-Intermediate level students and the Cambridge Advanced Certificate (CAE) for Advanced students. LMC offers preparation courses for both of these exams.
What is the IELTS exam and why should I take it?
IELTS is the International English Language Testing System, an exam which covers Speaking, Listening, Reading & Writing skills. Most universities in the UK require non-native speakers to achieve an IELTS score of 6 or more before being accepted onto a degree course. Certain professional bodies (eg. General Medical Council) also require non-native speakers to achieve an IELTS score before they can practice in this country. For more details, please see the IELTS section of our web-site.
What is the Trinity exam and why should I take it?
Trinity is a widely-recognised examining board that offers Spoken ESOL Exams covering 12 grades, from Beginner to an almost native speaker level of fluency. A Trinity qualification can increase a student’s confidence with spoken language and boost their realistic employment opportunities.
How long does it take for me to move from one level to another?
A committed, serious student can progress from one level to the next every 12 weeks on average.
Are the teachers native English speakers?
We employ highly-experienced and qualified native and non-native speakers.
Are you flexible with the class times?
Yes: students can choose to study in the morning, at lunch-time, in the afternoon or the evening (Tuesdays & Thursdays at our Finsbury Park centre).
