More and more, in these modern times, people from different parts of the globe are required to work together in order to keep the peace or repair what mankind or nature has done to our world. To work together efficiently, one common language has been found and that language is English or more specifically Military English. Military English permits the "interoperability" of the multinational forces involved in NATO, EU and UN peace support operations. It allows interaction between non-governmental agencies in conflict and post-conflict situations by enabling military and other security forces to communicate efficiently and accurately during humanitarian crisis'. It is a tool for promoting democratic values and respect for human rights and also, is a tool for international career advancement. "The need for effective communication is particularly acute in peace-support operations where linguistic misunderstandings risk leading to casualties" Nato Review  The Military English course is designed to prepare relevant people (military, security personnel of ground, air and naval forces, civil servants, diplomats and relevant civilians) to be able to communicate effectively and efficiently with each other on a daily basis. At the end of the course, you may sit the STANAG 6001 exam.AimsThe Military English course at LMC aims to allow students to: - improve their reading, writing, listening & speaking skills within the context of military;
- increase their knowledge of military-related vocabulary (based on STANAG 6001);
- focus on military-appropriate functions;
- become familiar with the format of the STANAG 6001 exam;
- practise exam techniques.
Course design- There are four different levels students can study, which are equivalent to SLP 0, SLP 1, SLP 2 and SLP 3 from the STANAG 6001 (Click Here to have more information about STANAG)
- You can combine this course with other courses including General English, Business English or Communication classes.
- The course can be fully tailored-made for special purposes.
- The topics are drawn from a variety of international military contexts, including the US, the UK, NATO and the UN.
- The course is fully supported by a wealth of resources (see Here )
- There is regular exam practice. This may take the form of a whole paper from the exam or sample of questions. This allows the student to monitor their own progression.
- Every week there is revision of the work done in the previous week. We believe that revision and reinforcement are invaluable learning tools.
- This course is modular and accepts new students every Monday

Study Hours & Sessions availableEnglish Military classes may be taken on their own or combined with General English courses. Students may choose to study just Military English for 30 or 15 hours a week, or combine this class with General English. Please click on the number of hours you wish to study for full details: You can choose the length of your course but we would advise that you to study 6 weeks for a 30 hour Military English course and 12 weeks for a 15 hour Military English course. This would probably ensure that your progress at least one level.
Why take the STANAG 6001 test?It measures the general language proficiency of key personnel being prepared to take part in peacekeeping missions and various other duties in NATO-led operations.
