The PAT testing course covers all of the important theory and practical aspects of Portable Appliance Testing. No previous professional training or experience is required!

Our course is a comprehensive Portable Appliance Testing Training course which covers everything that you are required to know in order to test electrical items safely.

The topics that are covered by the Training programme are:

  • Legislation: A brief introduction to the Electricity and Work Regulations 1989 (EAW)
  • Principles of Electrictiy: An appreciation of insulators, conductors, voltage, current and resistance. This is designed to give an awareness of the need for safety in conducting tests.
  • Classification of Equipment: How to identify the class of an appliance; Class I, Class II or Class III
  • Inspections: An understanding of User, Formal Visual and Combined inspections.
  • The Tests: A description of how the tests are performed and the pass/fail limits including why tests may fail.
  • Leads: The technique of testing leads and extension leads.
  • Labelling and recording: Hot to indicate pass/fail and how to record the results. Polarity Tests
  • Practical testing: A hands-on testing session using a range of appliances
  • Downloading: How to download a tester with a memory

Course prerequisites:
The PAT testing Training Course has no prerequisites. Any person can undertake the Pat Testing Training Course. In fact most of our participants have no previous electrical testing experience.

 

Qualification gained:
Succesful participants will receive a Certificagte of Competence in Theoretical and Practical aspects of In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment.
